Join the catamarans and dinghies racing on Coila Lake near Tuross Head

Batemans Bay Sailing Club has been organising off-the-beach sailing for trailable dinghies and multihulls for almost 50 years. Our off-the-beach racers sail from Kylah Park on beautiful Coila Lake.

The 2022/23 BBSC Off-the-Beach sailing programme begins on Sunday 16 October 2022 and runs almost fortnightly through the warmer months – with a few weeks off over Christmas and New Year – until Sunday 2 April 2023. Check out BBSC’s entire 2022/23 sailing program here.

If you’d like to sail with us, bring your boat to Kylah Park at 11.ooam on race days so you can be rigged and ready to sail the first race of the day starting at 12 noon. Coila Lake is a great place for small boat sailing – flat water, good sea breezes across the course and plenty of room without the hazards of open waters.

Bring your own lunch, drinks and a chair. Join the crew after the racing when we get together to hear the day’s results over drinks and often a barbecue.

We have two divisions – catamarans and dinghies. The race results are on Yardstick and Handicap. Each type of boat has a yardstick which is used to calculate a fair result for different boats. And just like golfers, each skipper has a personal handicap. You can sail the whole series of 20 races or turn up on any race day and get a casual entry (via Australian Sailing’s SailPass).

Amongst our fleet we have a wide range of experience from international champions to families and kids new to the sport. So if you join us you will have keen competition if that’s what you like or else people to follow and learn from if you are just starting out.

The ANZAC Day weekend regatta

Each year in April, Batemans Bay Sailing Club holds its highly regarded ANZAC Day Weekend Regatta. Held over two days on Batemans Bay, the ANZAC regatta consists of races for multiple classes of off-the-beach and trailable yachts. This regatta attracts competitive sailors, some of whom are vying for state and national titles. With the entire fleet of entrants out sailing, Batemans Bay begins to look like Sydney Harbour – it’s a real festival of colourful sails and action-packed racing.
